NTC 2023 Licensure Exams: 70% of the failures were distance students – Kofi Asare discloses

The Executive Director for Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare has disclosed that the over 83% failure recorded after the writing of the 2023 NTC GTLE 1 exam is made up of 70% of Distance students.
In a conversation with his followers on social media, he replied to a comment.
The concerned citizen said “There must be data to ascertain which group of the education system (Distance Education or the training college). This will guide us to improve our system”
Replying to the concerned citizen and follower, he said “70% of the failures were distance students.”
Further, he added by stressing that focus should be laid on Basic Schools to solve the abnormal rise of failure because that is the foundation of literacy lessons.
“Exactly; fix the basics,” he stressed.
Earlier, he (Kofi Asare) detailed that about 84% of graduates who sat for the 2023 Ghana Teacher Licensure Exam failed.
He added that out of 87% of re-sit candidates failed again in Literacy.
Further, he talked about exam malpractice where he disclosed that “Overall, there were 14 cases of exam malpractices- impersonation and copying from mobile phones.”
Accounting from the scripts he said he laid hands on, he described them saying “Some of the literacy scripts I have been reviewing are very nauseating. I just can’t imagine how our classrooms would be if such calibre who cannot string a sentence together in English found their way in there without the licensure.”
He queried the educational journey of the prospective teachers in question.
“The thoughts of they having graduated from the university even gives me catarrh. How did they graduate without basic literacy?”
“The National Teaching Council is doing a good job by sieving the best for our schools,” he applauded NTC.
“We must refurbish the entire education system,” Kofi Asare suggested.
