Obusumasua Presby Primary School appeals for assistance in renovation and resources

Pupils of Obusumasua Presby Primary School in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region have issued a heartfelt plea to the government for assistance in renovating their deteriorating school building and supplying it with desks.

Additionally, the students have requested that the government furnish them with reading books and computers, enabling the establishment of a library within the school.

These appeals were made during a recent visit by the Keziah Addoquaye Foundation, a non-governmental organization based in the United States of America, which generously donated book bags to all the pupils.

Obusumasua Presby Primary School was founded in 1961 as a community school through the dedicated efforts of the late Dademantse of Obusumasua, George Nartey Ayernor. Ayernor generously provided a plot of land free of charge for the construction of the school.

By 1964, the school had progressed to Primary Four, prompting Dademantse Ayernor of Obusumasua, Dademantse of Akorwu-Bana, Oklu Kwadjo, and opinion leaders from neighboring communities such as Asiafo and Amanfrom to convene and establish the school at its current central location.

Despite starting with fewer than 15 students, the school now boasts over 150 pupils. However, it faces several challenges, including a lack of infrastructure, inadequate sanitary facilities, insufficient desks, reading materials, and teachers’ furniture.

Recognizing these difficulties, the Keziah Addoquaye Foundation, based in the United States, has decided to support the school by providing book bags to the students.

During an interview with GBC Sunrise FM, Lilly Ofosu Addoquaye, the founder of the foundation, shared that the organization was initially conceived by her late daughter, Keziah Addoquaye, who tragically passed away at the age of 14. The foundation now honors her memory by organizing this annual donation.

Furthermore, Mrs. Lilly Ofosu Addoquaye assured the school that the foundation would take the lead in arranging for the provision of laptops, tablets, and computers, both domestically and internationally, for the school.

The Headteacher of Obusumasua Presby Primary School and Akorwu-Bana MA JHS, Michael Kofi Numadzi, expressed his gratitude to the Keziah Foundation for their generous gesture, emphasizing that the donation would serve as a source of motivation for the students. Mr. Kofi Numadzi also took the opportunity to appeal to stakeholders and other philanthropic organizations to lend their support.

On behalf of the school pupils, Gloria Tamatey, the Girls Prefect, expressed appreciation for the generosity of the Keziah Addoquaye Foundation. She earnestly appealed to the government, stakeholders, and other benevolent organizations to provide reading materials, school desks, and assistance in building or renovating the school’s infrastructure.
