Omanhene urges President Akufo-Addo to halt prosecution of Assin North MP

The Omanhene of the Dormaa Traditional Area in the Bono Region and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Oseadeoyo Agyeman Badu II, has called upon President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene and request the Attorney General to bring an end to the ongoing trial of James Gyakye Quayson, the embattled Member of Parliament for Assin North.
During his address at the John Evans Atta Mills 10th Anniversary Commemorative lecture held in Sunyani, Oseadeoyo Agyeman Badu II stressed the importance of taking immediate action to halt the proceedings against the re-elected MP for Assin North constituency. He appealed to the President to urge the Attorney General to file a nolle prosequi, effectively terminating the trial.
The lecture, held under the theme “The Man, John Evans Atta Mills: 10 Years On,” provided a platform for the Omanhene to express his concerns regarding the trial. He firmly stated, “As a matter of urgency, I am appealing to the President of the Republic that any role he may have in this trial should be aborted. The Attorney General should promptly file a nolle prosequi to bring an end to this particular decision.”
Oseadeoyo Agyeman Badu II emphasized that the trial of James Gyakye Quayson would yield no tangible benefits for the Ghanaian populace. He expressed doubt about the positive impact of the prosecution and emphasized the detrimental effect it had on the MP’s ability to fulfill his duties.
He urged both the President and the Attorney General to take swift action, asserting, “The President and the Attorney General should promptly address this matter so that we, as Ghanaians, can move forward.”
By making this appeal, the Omanhene hopes to draw attention to the need for a resolution that will allow the elected Member of Parliament to resume his responsibilities and enable Ghana to focus on more pressing national matters.
