Three Ghanaian students reach finals of Global Social Innovation Challenge with revolutionary agricultural solution

Three (3) Ghanaian students from Heritage Christian College in Ghana have successfully reached the finals of the Fowler Global Social Innovation Challenge (FGSIC) for this year.
The team, known as ‘Team Clean Crop Fertiliser,’ competed against 31 other teams, comprising 80 students from 22 universities spanning across nine (9) countries.
The team was led by Rebecca Ocloo Akorli, David Bonyamya-Zimbo, and Emmanuel Mensah to showcased an ingenious solution to a major sanitation and agricultural problem in Ghana.
The said challenge took place at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.
Their groundbreaking idea involves converting urine into organic fertilizer, which aims to revolutionize agriculture by promoting sustainability and environmental friendliness. The judges and audience were captivated by their innovative approach throughout the event.
In recognition of their exceptional achievement, Team Clean Crop received a $2,000 prize to further develop their proposal and bring their concept to life.
The Fowler Global Social Innovation Challenge (FGSIC) encourages creative thinkers to address global issues while contributing to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Since its establishment in 2011, the competition has connected more than 2,500 students from over 25 countries, recognizing outstanding social ventures that have a positive impact and demonstrate financial sustainability.
With an impressive track record of distributing over $600,000 in seed funding, this year’s FGSIC attracted participants from various nations, including Australia, South Korea, Rwanda, Ireland, Mexico, Ghana, and Peru.
