Life for some staff of collapsed financial institutions (Banks) in Ghana is unbearable as they took to the social media to openly express their disappointment, displeasure and worry toward the New Patriotic Party government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In a sad and unfortunate story intercepted by Coverghana.com.gh, one of the affected staff who worked at the Darkuman branch of now-defunct Unibank, Mr. Johnson Kwarteng Addo has regretted bitterly voting for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the December 2016 general elections.

In a statement, he recounted his suffering under the current government says, he finds it very difficult to cater for his dependants since the bank he works has been collapsed by government through the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

According to him, he effectively campaigned for the New Patriotic Party in the run up to the December 2016 general elections even though his colleagues used to mock him. He noted that, things are not as expected soon after the NPP won the 2016 presidentual elections. But that notwithstanding, he together with his suffering dependants will correct their mistakes in the December 2020 polls.

He believes that, he is now jobless, frustrated and depressed because of his wrong decision to campaign and vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2016 Elections hence vowed to vote them out in the upcoming December 2020 polls.

In the very sad and shocking statement put up by Mr. Johnson Kwarteng Addo narrating his story reads below; 

“As a permanent staff of Unibank. My Net salary was Gh¢6,700 a month, 6i had good allowances. I had 6 dependents. I was able to take care of them by God’s grace. I had 2 cars and was building my house. Life was ok for me. Until the NPP came to power and forcibly  collapsed the bank and now here I am, jobless, frustrated, depressed. I sold my cars. My building project stalled. More painful is my dependents looking up to me, and i can no longer help.”


What wrong did I do?

My thumb misbehaved on December 7, 2016. I campaigned for NPP in 2016. My friends use that to mock me till date. Well I, together with my dependents will be doing ‘CORRECTION’ in December this year.”

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) in 2017 has shutdown some Banks, revoked licenses of others while some have been merged and degraded to savings and loan in the country for many reasons.

According to reports published by Bank of Ghana (BoG) following their actions disclosed that, some Banks were unable to raise GH¢400 million minimum capital requirement as of December 31, 2018 hence the decision to merge and revoke their licenses.

The report also suggests that, some Banks acquired fraudulent licenses through non-existence capital to operate. The actions according to the Bank of Ghana is fraudulent and illegal hence deserve a sanction.

The list of five collapsed banks found in the Bank of Ghana (BoG) report included Unibank Ghana Ltd, The Royal Bank LTD, Beige Bank LTD, Sovereign Bank LTD, and Construction Bank LTD.

Meanwhile, the same reason of insolvency was cited as a cause of the collapse of the various banks, within a span of two years, about seven indigenous banks have collapsed.
