In preparation for the upcoming examinations, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has outlined a comprehensive set of pre-examination procedures to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the Council’s examinations. These procedures are designed to uphold the integrity of the examinations and provide a standardized and rigorous assessment for all candidates.
Pre-Examination Procedures (1)
- Development of Teaching syllabus by the Ghana Education Service and Examinations syllabus by WAEC Training of Item Writers
- Commissioning of Item Writers/knowledgeable persons/experts/professionals in the subject areas are commissioned to set questions).
Pre-Examination Procedures (2)
- Trial testing of Items
- Moderation of Items by experts
- Compilation of papers by Subject Officers
- Typesetting, proofreading, and editing
- Printing of question papers
- Accreditation / Recognition of Schools

Pre-Examination Procedures (3)
- Registration of candidates (This is done online)
- School candidates are registered by Directors of Education (BECE)/ Heads of School (WASSCE).
- Private candidates register individually.
- Centre Arrangements for conduct of examinations
- Submission of Continuous Assessment Scores (school examinations only)
Pre-Examination Procedures (4)
- Briefing Courses for Heads of School and Examination Officials
- Sensitisation programme for schools/candidates: These programs aim to familiarize them with the examination rules and regulations, ensuring a level playing field for all participants.
- Packing of confidential materials, including question papers and other related documents, are packed securely to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the examination process.
