Sculpture on Campus: Bust of Casely Hayford in Focus
During the years 2003 and 2004, the Junior Common Room commissioned a bust portrait of Joseph Ephraim Casely Hayford, after whom the Casely Hayford Hall was named.
The statue is crafted in a classic European style, reflecting the colonial era during which Mr. Casely Hayford worked for the benefit of Africa.
On the pillar carrying the portrait is the following inscription:
“Joseph Ephraim Casely Hayford
September 28, 1866 – August 11, 1930
Writer, journalist, politician, and lawyer,
Helped lay the foundation for a united Gold Coast
UCC’s Casely Hayford is the founder of the National Congress of British West Africa.
He also worked for Africans during the Colonial Era.
