South Tongu MP ‘rescues’ Galotse E.P Primary School with building materials
The four (4) year classroom infrastructural woes of the pupils of the Galotse E.P. Primary School in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region would soon become history. This follows the donation of assorted building materials to the school by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area towards the reconstruction and re-roofing of the upper primary school block which was ripped off in a rainstorm in September, 2016.
The pupils have, after the incident, been studying not only under trees and palm branch structures but also squeezed in the remaining classrooms until the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country in March, 2020.

Since its establishment in 1934, the classroom structures of the school have not seen any major renovation exercise on them. It was against this backdrop that constant appeals to the MP by the Management of the School and the Galotse community leaders got such a positive response from their representative in the Legislature.
Responding to the plight of the people, the MP, Hon. Wisdom Kobena Mensah Woyome donated several trips of sand and chippings, fifty (50) bags of cement, roofing sheets, door locks, paints and other assorted building materials towards the complete fixing of the problem before schools fully reopen in September, this year.

Mr. Woyome commended the chiefs and people of Galotse for their self-help communal spirit which in 2017 resulted in the construction of a three (3) unit pavilion structure for their Junior High School (JHS) pupils through communal labour and self-imposed monetary contributions towards the project.
The Dufia of Galotse, Togbe Apasu Hawu IV was grateful to the MP for the gesture, describing the intervention as a dream come true.

The Assembly Member (AM) for the area, Hon. Benjamin Yao Agbeyesro and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Chairman of the school, Mr. Ephraim Eklu Agbokpa assured the MP that the community would again and as always use commercial labour to execute the project on time.
They used the opportunity to renew their appeal to government, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) as well as individuals and public spirited organizations to assist the community with building materials to raise the JHS pavilion structure into a full-blown classroom block for their pupils.

Since its inception in 2017, the first batch of JHS3 pupils recorded ninety-six (96) percent in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with the second batch graduates achieving a hundred (100) percent pass in the 2018 BECE. In 2019, the school produced its third batch of JHS3 pupils who had seventy-seven (77) percent with the fourth batch currently preparing for this year’s BECE.
Messrs Agbeyesro and Agbokpa said these results have made the school one of the best performing basic educational instititons in the Larve Circuit of the Ghana Education Service (GES). ‘The community and pupils need to be rewarded and motivated with a new JHS block’, the Assembly Member and PTA Chairman stressed.
