ORIENTATION FOR FIRST-TIME MPS IN THE 9TH PARLIAMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA
In a bid to prepare newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) for their legislative responsibilities, Ghana’s Parliament under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Speaker ASK Bagbin is organizing a four-day orientation program for first-time MPs in the 9th Parliament. This program being held just a few days after their swearing-in ceremony, is aimed at providing the new legislators with the necessary knowledge, tools, and insights to navigate parliamentary processes effectively in serving their constituencies.
The orientation covered a wide range of topics, including the Standing Orders of Parliament, legislative procedures, committee systems, the budget approval process, and ethical standards for MPs. Participants also engaged in interactive sessions with seasoned parliamentarians, governance experts, and parliamentary staff, who shared their experiences and best practices for impactful legislative work. The program emphasized the importance of collaboration, non-partisanship, and upholding the democratic principles of accountability and transparency.
Hon. Maxwell Lukutor, the newly elected MP for South Tongu, was among the enthusiastic participants.
