Strike
Here is the full list of Labour Unions that declared a strike in Ghana after SSNIT intended to sell 60% of its stake in their hotels.
Weeks ago, the Honorable Member of Parliament (MP) for the North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa raised concerns with valid documents stating that fishing acts are going undercover concerning SSNIT properties.
The lawmaker backed his claims with facts proving that the said uncalled-for act will eat up Ghana if the appropriate authorities don’t take a well-calculated step to address his findings to the core.
SSNIT in May 2024 confirmed that they are underway to sell the 60% stake they hold in the SSNIT properties after Okudzeto Ablakwa unearthed the dubious act in his series of publication on the matter.

“The Trust commenced the process with the engagement of a Transaction Advisor through the ICT method of procurement, with publication of advertisements in the Daily Graphic on 14th November, 2018 and in the Ghanaian Times on 15th November, 2018. The advertisement was also published in an international magazine, The Economist in its January 5-11, 2019 edition,” SSNIT stated in an official release after the topic was discussed on Metro Tv’s Good Morning Ghana Programme on Friday, 17th May, 2024.
According to SSNIT, the move is part of their strategic decision to partner with a strategic investor to raise capital and improve management.
“After a thorough evaluation, Rock City Hotel emerged as the best candidate and they commenced negotiations for a 60% stake in four (4) hotels namely Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Ridge Royal Hotel, and Elmina Beach Resort.”
The topic generated intense heat across all sectors of the economy for more than a month and eventually compelled public institutions to declare an indefinite industrial strike for its members effective Monday, July 15, 2024, in order to put the drivers of the economy to reset mode.
