Staff of KIA lay down their tools

The staff of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) have withdrawn some of their services effective today 26th February, 2021.

The withdrawal of the services by the workers is in protest of alleged mismanagement of the by the managing director of the facility—Mr Yaw Kwakwa.

In a letter to from the Divisional Union to the general staff asked all staff to withdraw their services at the KIA effective 06:00hrs Friday, 26th February 2021.

According to the Divisional Union, the board of the Institution is attempting to “shelve the report of an investigative committee comprising the Ministry of Aviation, the Board, Senior Management, and the Public Services Workers Union which confirms the allegations of mismanagement and abuse of office levelled against the Managing Director, Mr Yaw Kwakwa” and hence their decision to strike.

Some of the Services that have been withdrawn by the staff of the airport are;

  • Fire/Safety cover for all aircrafts
  • Water supply and sewage treatment
  • Public announcement and flight display

The Union of the Airport is also demanding for the removal of the Managing Director of the Airport—Mr. Yaw Kwakwa.
