Teacher Unions call for action on delayed GES promotions

In a recent development, the three (3) teacher unions, NAGRAT, GNAT, and CCT, have raised concerns over the prolonged delay in the GES promotions. This issue comes in the wake of a press release issued by the unions when the GES released last year’s promotion results.
According to the initial press release, there were supposed to be two promotion exams – one for the main promotions and another for those who couldn’t make it through initially.
The teacher unions urged the GES to ensure that the promotion portal is open and that the exams are conducted before December of the preceding year.

However, into the second month of this year, 2024, there is no indication that the promotion exams, especially for the remedial candidates have taken place. This has prompted the teacher unions to question whether their concerns and recommendations have been overlooked.
The teacher unions emphasize the urgency of the situation, pointing out that the delay is causing uncertainty among their members. The press statements issued by the unions seem to be more focused on calming down teachers with assurances rather than addressing the root cause of the delay.
It remains unclear whether the teacher unions are aware of the current timeline and are intentionally raising the issue, or if there has been a genuine oversight in the scheduling of the promotion exams.
The unions are calling for swift action to ensure that the exams are conducted promptly and that the long-awaited promotions are granted to deserving teachers.
