Teacher Unions, MoE and MELR to meet over new GES Director-General’s appointment

Dr. Eric Nkansah
Information available to Coverghana.com.gh has confirmed that, the three major Teacher Unions, Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR) will meet to resolve misunderstanding over the appointment of new Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Dr. Eric Nkansah.
The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR) in a letter said, it has come to their attention that, the pre-tertiary education sector unions are threatening to embark on industrial action over the appointment of a new Director-General for the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Given the long standing relationship between Government and the Unions, the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR) hereby invites the Minister for Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Leadership of the Unions concerned (GNAT, NAGRAT and CCT-GH) to a meeting in the Conference Room of the Ministry on Friday, 4th November, 2022 at 10:00 am to discuss and find amicable resolution to the impasse.
According to the Minister for the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR) Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah, by the invitation to parties, the Ministry entreats all stakeholders to exercise restraint whilst the matter is being amicably resolved.
This directive and invitation for the meeting came as teacher unions raised a red flag in opposition to the appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah and Mr. Anthony Boateng as Ag.Director General and Deputy Director General respectively.
The concerned teacher unions have since threatened to resort to industrial action to drive home their disappointment if nothing is done about the pending issues by 4th November, 2022.
The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations has taken cognizance of the foregoing and has initiated steps to invite the Ministry of Education and the Teacher Unions to resolve the matter over a round table discussions.
