Some Teachers who are members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) have threatened to withdraw their membership if the leadership of the Association forcefully increase the current monthly cancer fund contributions as proposed.
According to the aggrieved teachers, the proposal by the leadership of the Association is insensitive and needless and must be aborted immediately. They believe that, not even a pesewa more should be deducted in the name of cancer fund apart from the current GH¢2.00.
The Association under the Leadership of the National General Secratery Mr. Thomas Tanko Musah and the National President Madam Philippa Larsen has proposed an increment of teachers monthly cancer fund contributions from GH¢2.00 to GH¢5.00 per person per month to effectively support the cancer facility.

The decision didn’t go well with greater number of their membership as they threatened to exit the Association if the leadership fails to listen.
In a statement, some of them said “I’ll leave and join Innovative Teachers should it be implemented. Their dues is just Gh¢5.00 no other charges.”
The angry teachers expressed worry and disappointment in their leaders by saying, “they cannot talk about increment in teachers salaries but they can only talk about increment in dues and Cancer fund.

“They should not do that Ooo.You continue deducting but we don’t see where the money goes? Up to now, no incremental jump yet you are talking of contributions. How much do we take home?”
Meanwhile, some of the teachers said, the leadership have failed to negotiate for salary increment for its members but only interested in increasing unnecessary levies.
“THEY SHOULDN’T GO THERE. HAVE THEY NEGOTIATED ANY SALARY INCREASE FOR THE YEAR. AGAIN WHEN THE GOVERNMENT WITHDREW OUR PROFESSIONAL ALLOWANCE DID THEY MAKE A SINGLE COMMENT ABOUT IT. NONSENSE.”

“All you know is increase, increase.
Kwaaasiaaaa fuo. Common Laptops for teachers, you accepted for us to be deducted before we get a fake brand of Laptop for work. Must we pay for tools to be used in teaching?.”
On the other hand, some of the teachers said, there is no need to increase the monthly cancer fund contributions. According to them, GNAT has so many guest houses and so many investments across the country and other movable assets that can generate revenue for the Association rather than increasing levies always. “GNAT has so many investment that can be used to subsidize the cancer fund.”
“The textbooks and the teachers guide we need to enhance our work and feel happy in class, they are silent over it and only talking about for SHS feeding.” Some accused.
Some also alleged that, the leadership is doing great business with their cancer facilities and are been fooled into thinking that the facility is there to attend to only teachers at affordable rate and therefore we should contribute more to expand it.
