UCC Dean of students lists hostels students have challenges with, warns on financial dealings

The Office of the Dean of Students at the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Eugene K. M. Darteh has released a notice cautioning students against financial dealings especially in their search for accommodation for next academic year.

In a statement dated 15th May, 2024, the Office of the Dean of students has released a full list of hostels UCC students have had challenges with in the past and warned them against financial dealings in the quest of similar issues.

The notice read

NOTICE TO ALL STUDENTS ON FINANCIAL DEALINGS

All students are advised to consider the following in their financial dealings especially in their search for accommodation for next academic year.

• Get receipts for all payments
• Inspect/see what you are paying for and be satisfied before paying.
• Do not depend on hearsay of fellow students or friends
• Be sure you paying to the right person and right accounts
• Do not pay through any middleman/person or fellow student.
• Terms and conditions should be agreed and signed/witnessed before/immediately after payment
• If you are making any payments subject to provision of any facility or services in the accommodation, get receipts, witnesses, and or signed document
• Blocking rooms with down payments and later deciding to opt-out can lead to loss of down payments
• Lending and or borrowing comes with risks (even to friends) be sure of what you are getting into and your appetite for risk
