Ho, Ghana – October 14, 2024 – The 9th Annual International Alumni Conference, organized by the United Evangelical Mission (UEM), commenced at the Sky Plus Hotel, Weta-Hills, in Ho, Ghana. The event, attended by distinguished guests, alumni members, and professionals in diaconic management, is focused on the theme: “Universal Health Coverage and Welfare (SDG 3.8): Towards Post-COVID-19 Responses; Challenges, Key Strategies, and Role of Health and Religious Institutions within Global Contexts.”

In his welcoming address, Rev. Godwin Ampony, Head of the Department of International Diaconia at UEM, conveyed heartfelt greetings on behalf of the General Secretary and the entire UEM communion. He expressed the significance of the conference as a milestone in the collective journey towards fostering diaconic leadership, collaboration, and action globally.

“The UEM is a communion of 39 Churches across Africa, Asia, and Germany, deeply committed to promoting justice, peace, and the well-being of all communities,” Ampony stated. “Through our International Master of Arts in Diaconic Management (IMADM) programme, we aim to empower leaders equipped to address the complex challenges of our time with compassion and strategic insight.”

Rev. Ampony highlighted the importance of this year’s theme, which calls for reflection on the critical roles health and religious institutions play in promoting holistic recovery in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that the alumni and professionals present have invaluable roles to play in these discussions and actions, expressing confidence that their contributions over the coming days will be both impactful and far-reaching.

The UEM has cultivated a robust and growing network of ICDM alumni, connecting professionals from diverse cultural and geographical backgrounds united by a shared commitment to serve humanity. “This network is not just a community of like-minded individuals; it is a dynamic body with the potential to influence positive change globally,” Ampony remarked.

He encouraged participants to engage fully with the programme, share their experiences, and build on the foundations of solidarity and collaboration that the conference provides. Rev. Ampony also expressed gratitude for the cooperation between IDWM and UEM over the past 16 years since the initiation of the study programme.

“As we gather here in Ho, let us inspire one another and explore innovative ways to integrate diaconic leadership into pressing health and social issues,” he urged.
