The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Education, Winneba has give its preliminary account on the the fatal accident involving some students of the University.
In a statement, the SRC said,
Folks, the SRC has received several calls about an accident on the Suhum- Accra Road. The said organised bus was moving from Sunyani to Winneba but due to the inadequate number of students on board the bus, the driver stopped and picked passengers from Dormaa and other areas.
The unfortunate incident has left most of our students injured at the Suhum government Hospital. The good aspect is that, a significant number of our students are very fit and the SRC has managed to convey them to Accra for some close monitoring.
As I write, the SRC President and his Vice, the Vice Dean of Student Affairs and other student leaders are on their way to the Suhum government Hospital to visit our affected students and get first hand information on the severity of injuries sustained.
Students are advised to keep calm and stop spreading pictures of people they claim are dead since the police in this case is the only body clothed with the power to declare same or otherwise and as it stands, there is no official communication to that effect.
The SRC is not relenting on its effort and will officially communicate whatever comes out to the student body.
The spreading of the pictures on our WhatsApp status and the platforms are causing avoidable fear and panic.
