UEW upgrades Chemistry Education Laboratory for enhanced academic work

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has undertaken a significant renovation project to revamp the Department of Chemistry Education Laboratory, fostering a more dynamic and practical academic experience for both the department and the entire university.
In a recent interview, Prof. Emmanuel Oppong, the Head of the Department of Chemistry Education, expressed his satisfaction with the refurbished facility, highlighting the positive impact it has had on teaching and learning. He emphasized the crucial role of a consistent water supply in facilitating meaningful practical work, stating, “When water doesn’t flow, you can’t do any meaningful practical work; therefore, the constant flow of water is a very good booster for our research work. Again, when there is no gas, we cannot do most of the heating of the reaction, so this is also a good add-on.” The renovated laboratories can accommodate 60 students each, totaling approximately 120 students, allowing for a more efficient and comprehensive learning environment.
Prof. Oppong further noted the renewed enthusiasm among faculty and students since the laboratory upgrade. He urged all members of the Department to take responsibility for maintaining the renovated facilities, ensuring their long-term viability and benefiting both present and future generations of learners.
Moreover, Prof. Oppong expressed optimism that the new laboratories would contribute to the development of various innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing the faculty’s educational offerings and research capabilities.
In a show of support, Prof. Victus Samlafo, the Dean of the Faculty of Science Education, pledged to facilitate the swift completion of the ongoing renovation works on the biology and physics laboratories. Encouraging students to maintain their dedication, Prof. Samlafo urged them to channel their excitement for the new chemistry laboratories into their academic performance, striving for excellence in their end-of-semester grades.
Prof. Samlafo commended the contractor for delivering a commendable job and expressed gratitude to the management of UEW for their continued support of the Faculty of Science Education. He further urged the university administration to expedite the renovation work on the biology and physics laboratories, ensuring that students and faculty can benefit from upgraded facilities across multiple disciplines.
