Sources from within the family have reported the alleged kidnapping of the uncle of the student who was reportedly assaulted by the assistant headmaster of Nkwatia Presby Senior High School (SHS).
According to a report from asaaseradio.com, the uncle, identified as Emmanuel Agyapong, is said to have been abducted by a group of three men who forcibly took him from his residence using a pickup vehicle. He was subsequently transported to an undisclosed location.
After numerous unsuccessful attempts to reach the uncle, the family has lodged a formal complaint with the police in Pokuase.
The student’s father, Kwaku Nhyira-Addo, stated that on August 30, 2023, the family contacted the education minister to intervene in the situation.
Nhyira-Addo mentioned that the regional minister had contacted him and assured that the matter would be addressed. He also shared that the men involved in the abduction were allegedly linked to the school.
Nhyira-Addo said, “I called the education minister to intervene to ensure Emmanuel Agyapong is released.”
The initial incident that triggered public outrage occurred on August 29, 2023, when Diana Mensah was purportedly assaulted by an assistant headmaster of the school.
Mensah stated that following the incident, the school staff only provided her with a pain reliever. This resulted in severe facial injuries and impaired vision.
Photographs and videos of the student’s heavily bruised face circulated widely on social media, sparking widespread condemnation.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) responded by dismissing the headmaster while an extended investigation into the matter is conducted.
