Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police, has come under fire from Paul Adom Otchere for being emotional during his appearance before the parliamentary ad hoc committee.

According to Otchere, if he were the President of Ghana, he would have fired Dampare.

Paul claimed that Dampare had failed to prove that he was a guy worthy of leading the Ghana Police Service, the nation’s internal security organization, on his Good Evening Ghana broadcast on Metro TV.

Three police officers; COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent George L. Asare and Superintendent Emmanuel Gyabi were captured in a leaked audio footage plotting the ouster of the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, seeking the help of the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bugri Naabu.

Bugri Naabu secretly taped the conversation and leaked it, sparking a public outcry that led to the issue being sent to an ad hoc committee by parliament for an investigation.

All of the police personnel implicated in the plot to assassinate IGP Bugri Naabu, as well as the IGP himself, have testified before the committee under the direction of Atta-Akyea.

Dampare informed the committee that every accusation made against him by his subordinates was untrue and made up. He also refuted assertions made by COP Alex George Mensah, one of his accusers, that he was the worst IGP Ghana has ever had and that many police personnel were disgruntled with his management of the police force.
