Tyler Buchner is an American football quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He previously played for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Prior to going to Helix High School in La Mesa, California for his final year, Buchner attended The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, California. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, he did not play football in his final year of high school in 2020. Buchner threw for 4,474 yards and 53 touchdowns as a junior in 2019, in addition to 1,610 rushing yards and 28 rushing scores. He turned down offers to play collegiate football from Alabama, TCU, Georgia, USC, and Michigan in favor of the University of Notre Dame.
In 2021, Buchner began his journey at Notre Dame as the backup to Jack Coan. Throughout the season, he made appearances in 10 games, where he completed 21 of 35 passes, accumulating 298 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Additionally, he showcased his versatility by rushing for 336 yards and scoring three touchdowns on the ground.
The following year, in 2022, Buchner faced off against Drew Pyne in a competition to secure the starting quarterback position for the team. Unfortunately, his season took an unfortunate turn when he suffered a shoulder injury during Notre Dame’s game against Marshall on September 10, 2022. This injury sidelined him for the remainder of the 2022 regular season. Nevertheless, Buchner made a triumphant return to the field in Notre Dame’s victory against South Carolina in the 2022 Gator Bowl.
