The Volta Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the bad treatment meted out to some journalists and reporters who followed the National Democratic Congress to cover their campaign tour in the Volta.
According to the NPP, the NDC failed to provide accommodation and feeding for the journalists and reporters during the campaign tour of the Leader and Flagbearer of the NDC John Dramani Mahama.
In a statement issued by the NPP Volta Regional Communications Director Pope Yao Yevoo, they are calling on all well-meaning Voltarians and Ghanaians to condemn the NDC and its flag bearer in no uncertain terms for treating journalists like that.
READ THE FULL STATEMENT BELOW;
The gross disrespect and maltreatment of journalists by the NDC and its functionaries has once again been exhibited in the ongoing tour of the Volta Region by former incompetent president, John Dramani Mahama.
Journalists were disrespected by the NDC flag bearer and his lazy handlers every single day of tour. Day one of the tour which took the former president cum flag bearer through Battor, Mafi-Kumasi, Sogakope, Anloga and ended at Keta late in the night, had no accommodation arrangement made for the journalists on the tour. The journalists were left stranded and frustrated compelling them to put up with friends at Keta and Anloga. One of the journalists who expressed his frustration and anger on his Facebook wall was devoured by the social media lions of the NDC for speaking his mind.
The journalist who thought that things could change for the better were slapped with another heavy dose of disrespect on day two of the tour which took the former to Akatsi South, Ketu South and North and ended very deep in the night at Akatsi North. No accommodation and feeding arrangement was made.
On day three of the tour the former incompetent president and his lazy handlers sent a word to the journalists that they would meet them at Volta Serene Hotel at 7pm. At Volta Serene the management of the hotel would not tolerate such gross disrespect from the NDC and had to turn the journalists away because no member of the NDC made any prior arrangement for such a meeting. A new arrangement was made for the programme to be held at the Volta Press Center. Many of these determined journalists had to walk from Volta Serene Hotel to the Press Center only to be disrespected again. The former president did not show up to meet the journalists. Here again, no feeding arrangement or accommodation arrangement was made for those who came from other parts of the Region to Ho.
We in the NPP in the Volta Region and particularly our President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will never treat journalists like that and the journalists could attest to this themselves. It is disrespectful, demeaning and profoundly humiliating. We can only console the hard working journalists in the Volta Region to take heart and be proud of themselves for this huge sacrifice and yet were taken for granted by the NDC. It is their stock in trade and that is how they disrespect even the chiefs and people of the Volta Region.
Whiles we console our hard working journalists, we call on all well-meaning Voltarians and Ghanaians to condemn the NDC and its flag bearer in no uncertain terms for treating journalists like that.
