The Volta Region has won the National Reading Festival held in Accra. The National Reading Competition, which was held in Accra saw in attendance representatives from the sixteen (16) Regions in the country.
According to the grand total score sheet, the Volta Region tops all the regions with a total of 187 marks followed by Greater Accra with 180 marks. The Ashanti Region came 3rd with 175 marks where Savannah Region came 4th with 172 marks.
With reference to the score sheet, Oti Region, Upper East and North East Regions came 14th, 15th and 16th respectively.
The Volta Region was represented by the North Tongu and Volta Region’s Reading Champion – Samelia Mekporsigbe with her two colleagues Sonia Dzidula of Ho West and Victoria Yaotse from Ho Municipal.
The team puts up a golden performance to make Team Volta winners at the National Reading Festival organized by the Ministry of Education and USAID.
Samelia Mekporsigbe is a basic three (3) pupil of Battor D/A Primary School in North Tongu, Victoria Yaotse is a basic two (2) pupil of Sokode Gbogame M/A Primary school in Ho Municipal and Sonia Dzidula, a basic one (1) pupil from Ho West.
According to the results, Samelia Mekporsigbe had 6th position, Sonia Dzidula had 5th position and Victoria Yaotse was declared the winner (1st) in her category making the Volta Region the winner of this year’s reading competition.
Victoria Yaotse is one of the five (5) contenders from Sokode Gbogame M/A Primary school who represented Ho Municipal at the regional level, she came second at regional but became the winner at National level.
Samelia Mekporsigbe was the winner of the Volta Regional Reading Competition but came 6th at the National level.
Congratulations to the winning team including Mr. Godwin Amelor – Ho Municipal Education Director, Sallah Victoria – headmistress of Sokode Gbogame M/A Primary school, North Tongu Director of Education – Mrs. Isabella Regina Ayimey, District Director of Ho West, the entire staff and SMC of the schools.
