A young Nigerian man, Chidozie Collins Obasi, supposedly in his late 20s, is wanted by the Philadelphia Police in the United States of America for defrauding the New York State out of more than $30 million.
According to reports from the US FBI, the defendant allegedly convinced a medical equipment broker in the U.S. to broker sales of these non-existent ventilators, and ultimately deceived the State of New York into wiring more than $30 million for the purchase of ventilators that did not exist.
The US Attorney in charge of the case, Jacqueline C Romero announced that the said guy has been charged with crimes of conspiracy and fraud. Collins is likely to spend not less than 600 years in jail for this fraud based on his count of charges and operations under a different identity.
Nigerians on social media reacted expressing their shock and says this could be the second “hushpuppi” of our time.
