Volta Regional House of Chiefs appeals to VRA and GRIDCo for immediate measures
The Volta Regional House of Chiefs headed (President) by Togbe Tepre Hodo IV has appealed to VRA and GRIDCo for immediate measures to address the Akosombo Dam spillage.
In a press release by the House, Volta Regional House of Chiefs it was detailed that they have observed with dismay the ravages being occasioned by the spillage from the Akosombo Dam, which has resulted in an unprecedented level of flooding in the low-lying areas of the Volta-Basin.
Additionally, it was stated that information reaching the House indicates that there was insufficient notice to the affected areas, to have enabled them to take any precautionary measures before the spillage.
The action has resulted in catastrophic loss and displacement to the indigenes and businesses operating in the catchment areas.
It has further resulted in the disruption of electricity supply to various communities affected.
Appealing for a remedy, they put it that “The Volta Regional House of Chiefs is therefore making a special appeal to V.R.A and GRIDCO, to take immediate measures to forestall any further loss to the communities.”
“The House further appeals to the Central Government through the Volta -Regional Coordinating Council, to assist the various communities with logistics and safety equipment through (NADMO), in order to alleviate the immense sufferings the people are going through.”
