The Ghana Education Service (GES) presided over by the Director-General Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, has directed its Municipal, District and Metropolitan Directors of Education to allow teachers who applied to work with the Electoral Commission of Ghana during the voter’s registration exercise, exhibition and voting to assist the Commission.
In a press statement issued by the Head of Public Relations Unit of GES, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, the management of the Ghana Education Service noted that, its outfit has been drawn to a directive from some Directors asking teachers not to participate in the Electoral Commission’s exercise.
According to GES, it has not authorised the issuance of such directives to teachers. The statement also added that, no qualified teacher who has been selected by the Electoral Commission to perform a national assignment should be prevented by any director.
GES further cautioned that, the outfit of any director who issued such directive to teachers should with immediately effect withdraw it or faces the Service’s wrath.
