Walter James Lewis AM is an Australian former professional rugby league player who played and coached in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Lewis, widely known as The King and The Emperor of Lang Park, captained Queensland in thirty-one State of Origin games between 1980 and 1991.

From the year 1981 to 1991, he played in thirty-three international matches for Australia and served as national team captain from 1984 to 1989. Lewis is perhaps best renowned for his achievements in State of Origin, where he spearheaded Queensland’s supremacy throughout the 1980s, winning a record eight man of the match accolades.

In 1999, Lewis became the sixth member of “The Immortals” and was later inducted into the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame. He received the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 in recognition of his efforts to raise rugby league in Australia’s worldwide stature.
