Leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has expressed its heartfelt gratitude to their members (teachers) for the support rendered to the Union leaders in the call for 20% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).
In a statement, the General Secretary of GNAT Mr. Thomas Tanko Musah congratulates all teachers in the country who supported the leadership of GNAT and other Unions to drum home their demand.
Full agreement on COLA by Organized Labour and Government
GNAT leadership pledges for solidarity forever and appealed to members to always rally behind them for any positive agenda in the key interest of teachers.
On 4th July, 2022, the four major Teacher Unions GNAT, NAGRAT, TEWU and CCT-GH jointly declared a nationwide strike action over 20% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).
The strike was announced due to government’s inability to pay the COLA to the aggrieved teachers.

On Thursday, 14th July, 2022, after numerous back and forth, the Government and Organised Labour have concluded negotiations for Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).
A 15% Cost of Living Allowance has been agreed by the parties effective July 1, 2022 to all Public Sector Service Workers.
Teacher Unions declare indefinite nationwide strike
The leadership has also called off the strike following the 15% COLA agreement and asked teachers to resume work.
Teacher have been directed to return to the classroom as soon as possible.
