His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) members to come together following the parliamentary primaries on January 27, emphasizing that unity is crucial for success in the upcoming general elections on December 7.
His Excellency Nana Addo encouraged both winners and losers to uphold the party’s tradition and support the nominated presidential and parliamentary candidates.
Despite the chaotic scenes going viral from the NPP Primaries, H.E Nana Addo believes that the NPP can break the 8. He calls for unity, and rallying behind their excellent flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the win he foresees.
CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE TO THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY FROM PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO
The parliamentary primaries of Saturday, 27th January 2024, have effectively marked the completion of the final phase of internal contests in the New Patriotic Party for the general elections of 7th December 2024. Once again, through our conduct, we, in the New Patriotic Party, have demonstrated to the Ghanaian people that we are the Party of democracy and the rule of law.
I extend warm congratulations to the rank and file of the party, and applaud all stakeholders – the national, regional, constituency, electoral area, and polling station executives of the party, the Electoral Commission, the security services, and the media – for a job well done.
The time-tested, honoured tradition that has kept the NPP as one indissoluble unit demands that the victor receives the unalloyed support of the candidates who were not successful at the polls. If we are to Break the Eight, which I know is very possible, then we must stay true to this tradition, unite firmly behind our excellent presidential candidate and formidable parliamentary candidates, and deliver another resounding victory for the party, and, thereby, continue the process of bringing progress and prosperity to every part of our country, an endeavour on which we are already fully embarked.
We have elected a good blend of experienced and youthful parliamentary candidates, whom I warmly congratulate, and who, I am confident, will help secure a majority for the NPP in the ninth Parliament of the 4th Republic, and help return an NPP presidential candidate into office on 7th January 2025. I appeal to all who lost to remember that, in elections, there are winners and losers, and that today’s losers can be tomorrow’s winners.
I urge all true-blue party members to recollect, at all times, that the Danquah-Dombo-Busia political tradition is the greatest, most enduring, and noblest political tradition in Ghanaian politics. It was founded to fight foreign domination of our country and domestic tyranny of our state, which has, subsequently, emboldened several generations of its activists to defy detentions, exiles, martyrdoms, and long periods of opposition, to continue with the project of building a free, democratic and prosperous nation, propelled by individual enterprise and initiative, and by a deep sense of social justice.
Let us stay the course, conduct ourselves well before the Ghanaian people, strengthen our organisation, and win the 2024 elections.
