The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi has thrown a ‘political bullet’ at the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah for dragging the former Deputy Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine to the Disciplinary Committee of the Legal Council for what he [Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah] described as contempt.

According to the astute communicator of the NDC, any attempt by the Judiciary to suppress dissent and victimize critical voices will be fiercely resisted.

Chief Justice drags Dr. Dominic Ayine to Legal Council for contempt

In a public statement, Sammy Gyamfi said, in a democracy, every institution is subject to scrutiny and criticism, and the judiciary is no exception.

He believes that, the comment in question is an opinion Dr. Dominic Ayine is entitled to, and does not impugn the sanctity of the judiciary in any way. That, such a harmless comment will warrant Dr. Ayine’s referral to the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council by the Chief Justice is mind-boggling.

On 25th May, 2021, the office of the Chief Justice has Petitioned the Disciplinary Committee of the Legal Council to investigate the statements allegedly made
by Dr. Dominic Ayine during a panel discussion on Presidential Election Petitions and their impact on Africa’s Democracy.

He said, during the discussion, Dr. Ayine questioned the independence of the Judiciary due to, the manner the Supreme Court adjudicated the 2020 election petition.

But, the Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi said, the dicision to drag the former Deputy Attorney General to the Legal Council by the Chief Justice is suppress dissent and victimize critical voices will be fiercely resisted.
