Some Ghanaian, especially some members of National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken the President and his government on for making everything free for the citizenry during the novel Coronavirus pandemic era. Some individuals have also criticize the president for giving freebies to Ghanaians in order to score political point and favour towards the upcoming December 2020 polls.
But, the president during his address on Sunday, 16th August, 2020 on measures put in place to tackle the spread of the Covid-19 responded to the claims and said, his government is not providing freebies to Ghanaians but rather providing critical help to households, families and businesses, in the midst of this pandemic, because his administration cares for the livelihood of the citizenry.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo while speaking during his telecast update number fifteen (15) said, he is aware of the harm the Coronavirus pandemic has adversely caused Ghanaians and its effects on many lives and livelihoods.
According to him, “it is for this reason that his Government has implemented several measures such as free water and electricity, and funding to support small businesses, and tax reliefs, amongst others, to cushion the effect of the pandemic.”
President Nana Akufo-Addo added that, “It is his conviction that, in times of crises, it is the duty of a responsible and sensitive Government to protect the population, and provide relief.”
