The National Service Secretariat (NSS) has appealed for patience as concerns rise among service personnel of the 2023/2024 batch due to the delay in receiving their monthly allowances.
Despite commencing their service in November 2023, the NSS personnel have not yet received any payment from the government.
In an interview with Citi News, Ambrose Entsiwah Junior, the Acting Head of Corporate Affairs for the National Service Scheme, explained that the Secretariat is currently awaiting approval of their budget from Parliament.
He stated, “The timing of our payments depends on the availability of funds. It is important to note that, like other institutions, we have submitted our budget to Parliament for the necessary appropriation. Once these processes are completed and funds are released into our account, encompassing salaries and allowances, we will promptly disburse payments to the service personnel.”
Entsiwah also emphasized the importance of implementing the newly introduced metric app, designed to prevent the entry of unauthorized individuals into the system.
He acknowledged that this process would require some time to ensure that only eligible individuals engaged in national service are considered for allowance payments.
Furthermore, Entsiwah attributed the payment delay to the challenges posed by personnel reposting requests. He explained that it becomes difficult to process payments when individuals request reposting since different categories, such as subvented and non-subvented, as well as specific locations, need to be considered.
Consequently, the Secretariat aims to finalize all these administrative procedures before initiating the payment process.
