Western Togoland governing council and the defense council launch special taskforce

The Western Togoland Governing Council and Defense Council have jointly declared the establishment of a special task force assigned with three (3) significant objectives.
In a statement released by the Council, it was explained that the task force, which commenced its operations on January 18, 2024, will undertake a campaign to discourage voting activities within the territories encompassed by Western Togoland.
Additionally, it will conduct investigations to identify and document individuals who assist or collaborate with the Ghanaian government in the unlawful arrest and detention of Western Togoland activists. Furthermore, the task force will meticulously monitor and record statements that express support for the actions of the Ghanaian government.
The council’s leadership has advised the public to refrain from participating in any gatherings related to voting in Western Togoland.
This development follows a recent ruling by the UN Human Rights Council’s Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, which condemned Ghana and demanded the release of Western Togoland activists. However, the Ghanaian government has thus far failed to comply with this demand.
The actions of the task force are a direct response to what the council perceives as human rights violations and an unsustainable union with Ghana.
Traditional leaders have also been urged to exercise caution in their involvement with the Western Togoland cause and to refrain from aligning themselves with politicians who disregard human rights.
