A Communication team Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) cum a Cyber Security Consultant Mr. Yayra Koku has hinted to petition the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Sammi Awuku.
He has vowed to petition Mr. Sammi Awuku for holding two positions, thus; a public office and a political position.
According to Yayra Koku, the act contravenes and violates Public Sector Rules.
He disclosed that at the Burial ceremony of the Vice President, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s mother in Walewale, Mr Sammi Awuku was introduced to a gathering as the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and at the same time the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organisers.
He believes that, this is a clear violation of Public Sector Rules and regulations. According to him, he can’t hold both positions at the same time.
“Why is Sammy Awuku still holding the National Organisers position of the NPP after his appointment? The NPP party and government should come clear on this. The violations in this government are getting too much. I will personally petition the public sector commission on this.” He said.
SAMMI AWUKU’S APPOINTMENT AS DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF NLA
Sammi Awuku was appointed as the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
His appointment has been approved by the Council of State, in line with the law governing the appointment of the head of the NLA.
Awuku takes over from Kofi Osei Ameyaw, who was directed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on 10 March 2021, in a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, to hand over to the Finance Director, Ernest Mortey, since Osei Ameyaw’s one-year contract elapsed in February.
According to the existing practices and the Public Sector Rules, no person is expected to hold a public office and still be in an active political position like it’s being observed in the case of Sammi Awuku. He is said to have resigned immediately he was appointment by the President as the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA). It’s unclear what exactly is delaying his resignation from the Party office as National Organizer.
Until his latest appointment, Sammi Awuku also served as the Board Chairman of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), a specialized government agency which has a mandate to co-ordinate and facilitate employment opportunities for young people in Ghana.
In view of this, the NDC’s communications team member Yayra Koku has vowed to petition the Public Sector Commission over Sammi Awuku’s violation of the Public Sector Rules.
