Youth Employment Workers cry over unpaid exit funds and arrears for 2 years
The Youth Employment Workers who were employed by the Youth Employment Agency between 2016 and 2018 express disappointment in government’s inability to pay their exit funds and arrears which accumulated for twenty-four (24) months.
In a joint press statement issued by the a group calling itself, National Coalition of unpaid Youth Employment Agency beneficiaries of 2016 to 2018 has serve a notice of two weeks altumatum to the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to as a matter of urgency pay their exit fund and Arrears.
According to the Coalition, they have worked under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) for two years but have not been paid their exit Funds/Arrears as at now.

They disclosed that, the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) as their employer signed a contract agreement with them from 2016 to 2018 as youth employment workers under the following categories; Community Education Teaching Assistant (CETA), Community Health Workers (CHW), Community Policing Assistant (CPA), Youth In Fire Service Assistant (FSA), Coastal Sanitation, Arabic Education Teaching Assistant, E-Marine and Prisons Assistant(PA).
The coalition of the aggrived unpaid Youth Employment Workers said, they were contracted to work for twenty-four months which took effect from 14th of October, 2016 to 14th of October, 2018 ( for CETA) with other modules having their engagement date different. According to them, they are to receive a monthly allowance of Gh¢ 250.00 without any statutory deductions.
Again, the agreement on the engagement letter; “an amount of forty-five Ghana Cedis (Gh¢ 45.00) would be paid monthly into beneficiary exit fund and would be made accessible to us at the end of our engagement.”

Also, “five Ghana Cedis (GH¢5.00) would be paid monthly as an insurance premium against personal accident, injury and risk associated with our engagement.”
“Furthermore, YEA informed us to open an account with Agric Development Bank LTD (ADB) which our Exit fund would be paid into every month but our employer (YEA), never paid the above mentioned monies into the accounts after we spent monies to open this account.”
“To add to the above, some of our members have to borrow money, beg for food, are been harassed by the landlords just to mention a few. Our members went through all these but wholeheartedly worked hard to the development of our dear Nation. We, the Coalition of unpaid (YEA) are calling on the Agency to pay our Exit funds now or face our anger. We can not understand why the Youth Employment Agency would treat us this way for over two years.” The group narrated.

The coalition is therefore asking whoever is sitting on their hard earned monies to release it to them immediately. “Our debtors are chasing us here and there for sometimes now. We only see the action of our employer as a sheer wickedness and heartlessness towards us.” They told.
“We the members of the Coalition are giving just two weeks altumatum to the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to as a matter of urgency pay us our Exit fund and Arrears of the twenty four months with interest of current interest rate of bank of Ghana.
We are tired and enough is enough!!!.” The group instructed.
