The Ghana Police Service has arrested twelve (12) persons in Chereponi after series of vi0lent protests.
It could be recalled that there have been series of vi0lent protests in Chereponi after President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s nominees for MMDCE positions in the various Assemblies in the country.
Following the protests, the Ghana Police Service has arrested twelve persons who are suspected to have had a hand in the vi0lence that happened at Chereponi.
A statement from the Ghana Police Service said ;
12 ARRESTED OVER VIOLENT PROTEST AT CHEREPONI
1. An intelligence-led operation this dawn, Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Chereponi in the North East Region, led to the arrest of 12 persons for allegedly destroying some private properties and assaulting some persons at Chereponi two days ago.
2.Their violent act is believed to have been triggered by the announcement of a new District Chief Executive for the area.
3. The suspects are Kwabena Manteng,43; Iddrisu Abdul-Rahaman, 42; Sumaila Ibrahim, 16; Kasim Abdul-Aziz, 28; Kasim Latif, 65; Tbrahim Awuffor, 23.
The others are Osman Yussif, 36; Mohammed Abdul-Latif, 29; Fuseini Bawah, 30; Kwame Mahamud, 31; Bashiru Ayabli, 29; and Arimiyaw, 22.
4. As stated earlier, the Police shall arrest and prosecute anyone who breaks the law in protest of the publication of the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) list.
We will also continue to pursue and investigate all criminal conducts and deal decisively with those involved.
