“4 years is not enough for any President, we should consider 5 years per term” – Actor John Dumelo

John Setor Dumelo
The 2021 Parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress in the Ayawaso West wuogon constituency wants the tenure of Presidents in Ghana increased from four years to five years.
According to the actor and farmer John Dumelo, the four year term given to Presidents and Governments of the Republic of Ghana is not enough for them to function effectively.

Dumelo explains that out of the four (4) year term given to Presidents, they only get two years to do effective work as they use the first year to settle down and also uses the last year for their campaigns.
In a tweet, actor John Dumelo said “4 years is not enough for ANY President/ Gov to function effectively. The first year is used to settle down in the office and the last year for campaign, leaving only 2 years for effective work. We should consider 5 years per term.”

BACKGROUND
The constitution of the Republic of Ghana only allows every Individual or President to be elected as President of Ghana for a four year term renewable only once.
However, John Dumelo is advocating for the tenure of the President to be extended to five (5) years instead of the four (4) years stipulated in the constitution.
