The South Tongu District Assembly in Collaboration with Business Advisory Center under the Ministry of Trade and Industries, has presented Cassava Processing Machine with its accessories to five communities in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region to enhance their agro businesses.
The communities that benefited from the items include; Tefle, Dendo, Xikpo, Gordorkope and Dedo.
In presenting the items, Hon. Emmanuel Louis Agama, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of The South Tongu District Assembly stated that, the request was made about a year ago and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led government has put the farmers in his knee interest, hence the need for funds to be released to see to it that farmers receive these machines for their gari processing activities.
Addressing the people and the media monitored by Coverghana.com.gh news team led by Tabitha Kugbonu, Hon. Emmanuel Louis Agama noted that, most people are not interested in farming, rather, they are focusing on white colour jobs meanwhile farming is a very good venture. He referred to himself and parents as a few of the people making it big in farming, adding that farming was, and is still the job their parents used in taking care of them so no one should underestimate farming.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to put to use what was given to them and look forward for more developmental supports from the government.
Mr. Eric Batse, Head of Business Advisory Center, Sogakope, in his speech, indicated that the initial arrangement was to give the communities funds to support their agro businesses, but government thought it wise to rather provide them with the machines so that they do not only eat the cassava but also the rest can be used to generate income to them through gari processing and nobody is going to demand any share from whatever income was made out of the machine because it was given to them freely.
He added that, a lot of communities in the district have made several requests from his outfit but then, the selection was done from the national level so only five communities have received theirs and the rest will come later.
He said there are a lot of opportunities in the Business Advisory Center hence he urged traders and business owners to come and register with them with only a small amount of money and enjoy all the benefits.
Receiving the items, Hon. Dalley Elvis, The Assembly Member of Dedo Electoral Area, thanked the DCE and his partners for the kind gesture and promised to make good use of it.
