NUGS sets committee of enquiry for Islamic SHS menace
Students and police officers rashed to hospital after disturbances at Islamic SHS, Abrepo
The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has set up a committee of enquiry for the Islamic Senior High School menace that happened earlier this week.
The 5 member committee, which was formed in pursuant of the Union’s decision to probe further into the incidence has been tasked to;
1. Establish from credible findings, the true details of the issue
2. Assess the extent of damage caused to the hospitalized students
3. Make recommendations to the Union based on the findings of the matter.
Some students of the Islamic Senior High School, Abrepo-Kumasi in the Ashanti Region took to the street on Monday, June 13, 2022, blocked sections of the road to demonstrate against frequent motor traffic accidents in front of their school.
The police, in an attempt to disperse the students had to use pepper spray and fired warning shots after the students pelted them with stones.
As a result, some police officers have been removed from office and interdicted to make way for a thorough investigation into the incident.
According to a release from NUGS, referenced NUGS/ISM/003, dated June 16, 2022, the committee has been given 10 working days to submit it’s finding to the National Secretariat through the Office of the Secretary for Education.
The committee is made up of Michael Abuah Addo (Chairman), Asenath Owusuaa Yaa (Secretary), Ansah Bismark Palmer, Ibrahim Khalilulahi Usman and Gyasi Kwame Boateng.
