The Former Deputy Minister of Education Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has draged the Education Minister to Parliament to immediately address two bigoted publications against the Ewe ethnic group.
The Member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency has earlier today filed an urgent parliamentary question requesting the Minister for Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum to appear before the House and respond to the two bigoted publications in issue.
The text of Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s urgent question is as follows: “To ask the Honourable Minister responsible for Education whether the publications titled: History of Ghana, Text Book 3 by Badu Nkansah Publications authored by Badu Nkansah and Nelly Martinson Anim and Golden English Basic 4 authored by Okyere Baafi Alexander both of which contain bigoted content targeted at the Ewe ethnic group have come to his Ministry’s attention; were they approved by any of his Ministry’s agencies and what steps Government is taking to purge our schools and book shops from offensive, divisive and incendiary publications of this nature?”
Earlier today, pictures of books alleged to be History of Ghana, Text Book 3 by Badu Nkansah Publications authored by Badu Nkansah and Nelly Martinson Anim and Golden English Basic 4 authored by Okyere Baafi Alexander have surfaced on social media. The content of the books as intercepted by Coverghana.com.gh is said to have dented the image, integrity, culture and norms of the Ewe ethnic groups.
Many Ghanaians have flooded social media with copies of both books which contain bigoted content targeted at the Ewe ethnic group in Ghana.
The former Education Minister under former President John Dramani Mahama’s Presidency, who is also a proud indigen of the Ewe land has shown key interest in the subject matter and therefore filed a motion to drag the Education Minister to Parliament to clarify issues on the contents of the books.
