The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has directed the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to commence formal engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for support on economic program put together by the Government of Ghana.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Information, signed by Jojo Oppong Nkrumah (MP), the directive follows a telephone communication between the President and the IMF managing director, conveying Ghana’s decision to engage with the Fund.
The statement further indicated that, the engagement with the IMF will seek to provide balance of payment support as part of a broader effort to quicken Ghana’s build back in the face of challenges induced by the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine crises.
Cabinet is said to have indicated it’s support for the decision at a meeting on June 30, 2022.
