Anlo wants Northern Ghana’s chaotic scenes to repeat in Mafi Traditional Area -Dufia of Adidome
The Dufia of Adidome, Togbe Kwasinyi Agyeman V, has sounded the alarm, warning that the Anlo Traditional Council’s push to host the Mini Hogbe festival in Adidome could unleash chaos in the Mafi Traditional Area, reminiscent of the crises that have plagued Northern Ghana.
According to the Dufia, the Anlo Traditional Council’s insistence on proceeding with the festival despite his objections could lead to unrest in the area. “Adidome and Mafi need a program to resolve all chieftaincy problems now, not Mini Hogbe,” he emphasized.

The Dufia’s concerns are rooted in the deep-seated chieftaincy crisis that has beset the Mafi Traditional Area for over 30 years. The area is sharply divided, with rival installations of paramount chiefs and sub-chiefs in key towns and villages. The Traditional Area is currently embroiled in a bitter dispute over the installation of three paramount chiefs: Togbe Agbekpo Assem IV, Togbe Akpo Assem IV, and Togbe Assem IV.
In a strongly worded issued petition, the Dufia noted that Adidome and Mafi are not ready for celebrations of this nature, citing the deep-seated chieftaincy crisis that has plagued the area for over 30 years. The crisis, which began after the demise of the late Paramount Chief of Mafi Traditional Area, Togbe Assem III, has resulted in rival installations of paramount chiefs and sub-chiefs in key towns and villages.
The Traditional Area is currently embroiled in a bitter dispute over the installation of three paramount chiefs: Togbe Agbekpo Assem IV, Togbe Akpo Assem IV, and Togbe Assem IV. The case has wound its way through the National House of Chiefs and the Supreme Court and is currently back at the Volta Regional House of Chiefs.
Togbe Kwasinyi Agyeman V want his people to come together, resolve all the existing issues, and plan to celebrate after not holding a celebration in the centre where there exists misunderstanding all over.
The Dufia warned that the situation is volatile and could explode at any moment, plunging the area into chaos.
