B/R Jaman South: Residents of Kofitiakrom reject and vandalize donated dual desks
The residents of Kofitiakrom, a community in the Jaman South Municipality, Bono Region have rejected and vandalized the dual desks donated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Colonel Kwadwo Damoah.
According to the residents of the community, Kofitiakrom, they justified their action (destroying the donated desks) saying that their topmost priority as inhabitants of Kofitiakrom at the moment is Mobile Networks and road networks, not desks for the school pupils.
The majority of Ghanaians expressed their dissatisfaction with the acts of the youths of Kofitiakrom after the recorded video went viral online. Others also shared that the act of the youth deserves a thumbs up.
“This is what we call Community Action” in Social Development. Needs must not be imposed, even if it seemed what you want to give is what is important to the community. Listen and prioritize what the ‘real need’ is and target that first!! I don’t support them destroying state properties but Mobile Network is an important need, which shouldn’t take protests to get leaders to listen. Community strength,” a concern Ghanaian shared.
Others also shared that “Destroying the desks will help inform the MP to pay attention to the topmost needs of his constituents, not a donation that will throw more light on the NPP government’s education policies as the election month approaches and also help the MP to amass sympathetic votes.”
To a large extent, destroying the desks does not solve the poor network services and bad roads the youth are calling for. Channeling their grievances through the right tunnel has the tendency to address their eating-up challenge.
“Jaman South, specifically Kofitiakrom needs to be called for a lasting solution to their problems.”
