Samelia Mekporsigbe, a class 3 pupil of Battor D/A Primary School in the North Tongu constituency has emerged winner of the Volta Regional Reading Competition sponsored by the USAID Learning initiative.

The amazing Samelia Mekporsigbe, 8-year-old girl will proceed to represent the Volta Region at the national level in a few weeks after emerging the best from the circuit, district, and regional level where she competed with 17 other district champions.

Due to the large number of districts, (18 in all) the festival was organized into three stages i.e preliminary, semi final and final stages.

At the preliminary stage, there were three groups of six districts. After the preliminary stage, qualified schools proceeded to semi final where best performing schools from the semi finals were announced winners of the reading competition.

North Tongu District emerged winner of the competition followed by Ho West placing 2nd, Ho Municipal with 3rd position, Ketu North with 4th position, Kpando Municipal with 5th position and Anloga District placing 6th position among others.

Other Districts that participated in the contests are Central Tongu, Akatsi South, Akatsi North, North Dayi, South Dayi, South Tongu, Adaklu District, Keta Municipal, Ketu South, Agortime-Ziope District, Afadzato South and Hohoe Municipal.
