The Metropolitan Chief Executive for the Sekondi-Takoradi Municipal Assembly has been suspended, pending investigation.
Mr. Abdul-Mumin Issah was suspended from office on Friday February 4, 2022, following his arrest by the Ghana Police Service for alleged motor traffic offence.
His arrest, which occured on Thursday, February 3, 2022 was for three offensive conducts; assault of a public officer, offensive conducts conducive to breaches of the peace and disturbing the peace in a public place contrary to Sections 205, 207 and 298 respectively of the Criminal Offences Act of 1960 (Act 29).
The MCE, who appeared before court on Friday, February 4, 2022 has been reported to be granted a GH¢100,000 bail.
The suspension, which was indicated in a press release from the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, signed by the Honourable Minister, Daniel Botwe (MP), indicated that the suspension was directed by the President.
“On the instructions of the President, the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Sekondi-Takoradi Assembly, Mr. Abdul-Mumin Issah has been suspended from office with immediate effect pending an inquiry into his encounter with the Police on February 3, 2022” the release indicated.
The Hon. Western Regional Minister, Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has been assigned additional supervisory authority over the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly.
