CEO of Ghana Enterprises Agency addresses allegations of political influence on funding

Kosi Yankey-Ayeh, the CEO of the Ghana Enterprises Agency, has affirmed that the distribution of funds to businesses under the agency has been solely based on merit.
She has rejected claims suggesting that political connections and personal relationships have influenced the disbursement process, emphasizing that the agency has implemented measures and technology to ensure that only deserving applicants receive funds.
In an interview on the PM Express Business Edition with host George Wiafe on January 25, 2024, Mrs. Yankey-Ayeh acknowledged the existence of external pressures from relatives, pastors, friends, and politicians but assured that the agency remains committed to working with a system that minimizes human influence.

Mrs. Yankey-Ayeh provided further details regarding the disbursement of funds, refuting allegations that the allocation has been biased towards politically supportive regions. She stated that the agency’s data does not support such claims, as the primary beneficiaries come from the Volta, Central, and Western Regions. Moreover, she explained that disbursements have been evenly distributed across the country, as evidenced by the breakdown at the district level.

Emphasizing the agency’s commitment to due diligence, Mrs. Yankey-Ayeh maintained that requests for funds undergo rigorous scrutiny before approval. The disbursement process is closely monitored to ensure that only eligible individuals receive financial support.
Mrs. Yankey-Ayeh also acknowledged that SMEs face challenges beyond financial constraints, including a lack of technical support to foster their growth. She highlighted the importance of providing SMEs with the necessary guidance on effectively managing their enterprises, recognizing that financial assistance alone is insufficient for their success.
