Daniel Botwe Denies Allegations of DCEs Being Sacked for Opposing Bawumia’s Presidential Bid

Daniel Botwe, the Minister of Local Government, Rural Development, and Decentralisation, has dismissed claims that President Akufo-Addo sacked 24 District Chief Executives (DCEs) due to their opposition to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential aspirations.

Botwe stated in an interview that such allegations are baseless and should be disregarded. He emphasized that the President, who has worked closely with the DCEs, had valid reasons for their removal and that their dismissal was part of a routine reshuffle to strengthen the government.
The President revoked the appointments of the DCEs on February 2 without providing an explanation. Reports suggest that the dismissals were in regions where Dr. Bawumia performed poorly in the party’s previous primaries.
Botwe’s remarks aimed to dispel rumors that the dismissals were politically motivated. He urged caution against making unsupported claims and emphasized that the President makes changes to his team as needed to meet the aspirations of the people.
No further details were provided regarding the subsequent appointment of new individuals to replace the dismissed DCEs.
