Mr. David Kattah, the incumbent Volta Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has won the Championship race in the just ended Delegates’ Conference.

According to the teachers/delegates from the two Regions thus; Volta and Oti, they are very confident in the productive leadership of Mr. David Kattah over the last four years, hence, the need for his reelection as their Regional Chairman for another four years term in order to continue his positive works.

The Delegates, ahead of the elections were seen all over chanting, mentioning David Kattah’s name with different and positive phrases, some of which read,  “We like his leadership, he is Volta GNAT number one, he is the grassroot and humble leader” among many.

Though, some teachers across the country have descended heavily on their leadership in the recent times and vowed to vote them out of office due to government’s poor conditions of service to teachers and poor quality of education, the story is entirely different in the case of David Kattah. The supports he had from accredited Delegates’ to Regional Conference show that, teachers within the two Regions have repossessed massive confident in their “Humble Leader” Mr. David Kattah and duly retained him in office.

He was reelected at 6th Quadrennial (53rd) Regional Delegates’ Conference held in Ho, the Association’s Regional GNAT Hall from Monday, 9th August to Wednesday, 11th August, 2021.

VOLTA REGIONAL CHAIRMANSHIP RACE.

The Volta Regional Chairmanship race featured Mr. Bruce Senam McBrain and the incumbent Mr. David Kattah.

After a successful election, the incumbent David Kattah pulled a total of two hundred and sixty-one (261) valid votes while Bruce Senam McBrain had ninety-one (91) valid votes.

According to Eureka Abbey, the newly elected executive officers will serve for four years in office as Regional Executives except the Female Delegates to National Delegates’ Conference whose position expires after the National Delegates’ Conference in 2022.

DELEGATES FROM THE ADMINISTRATIVE GNAT DISTRICTS TO REGIONAL CONFERENCE

A total of fourteen (14) administrative GNAT Districts in the Oti and Volta Regions have their representative of teachers refered to as Delegates to the Volta Regional Delegates’ Conference in Ho.

These delegates were elected at each of the District’s Delegates’ Conference to represent teachers (GNAT Members) in the respective Districts at 2021 Regional Conference.

CONFERENCE OBSERVERS AND AD-HOC COMMITTEES MEMBERS

A number of teachers were given observer status to the Regional Conference while some were put on ad-hoc committees to assist during the conference.

VOLTA REGIONAL GNAT

The Volta Regional branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is one of the ten (10) administrative Regional branches of the Association. Though, Oti region was created from the “Old Volta Region”, they are still categorize as one Region for GNAT under the “Old Volta Regional GNAT”

REGIONAL DELEGATES’ CONFERENCE

The Volta Regional branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is constitutionally bound by Article 16(4)(a), to convene a Regional Conference, the highest decision-making body at the regional level, every four years to discuss matters refered to it the Regional and National Executives of the Association and other matters of common interest to all members in the Region.

It’s in this constitutional provisions that, the just ended Regional Delegates’ Conference was held.
