The Director-General of Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Eric Nkansah, and his team have toured places affected by the VRA-induced flood in the Volta Region.

The tour was a three-day (3-day) visit to the Volta Region which began on Thursday 9th November 2023.

Together with a cross-section of Directors from the headquarters, Directors in charge of Administration, Guidance and Counselling, Planning, Procurement, Special Education, Girl Child Education, Early Childhood Education, and the Director for Partnerships and Affiliations, they visited some affected schools and communities within North and South Tongu districts.

The visit’s aim

The visit was to assess how well the Education in Emergency Plan is being implemented to ensure that all schools affected by the floods resume teaching and learning activities within the shortest possible time.

With the support of UNICEF and other development partners, we handed over 3,000 school uniforms, 800 packs of teaching and learning materials, 10 boxes of school-in-a-box kits, 4 tents, 36 packages of recreation kits, and 32 Early Childhood Development kits.

GES is grateful to all development partners and stakeholders for their continuous collaboration during this very challenging moment.
