Distribution of relief items to flood victims: South Tongu DCE must sit up – NDC

The leadership and the rank and file of the NDC in the South Tongu Constituency, and by extension the good people of Ghana, have been taken aback by the viral video on traditional and social media attributed to the District Chief Executive (DCE) of our beloved District. In the said video, the DCE, Hon. Seth Kwasi Agbi, was heard, loud and clear, lamenting about his inability to distribute relief items contributed by well-meaning Ghanaians and various companies and institutions due to unavailability of fuel for vehicles.

It is instructive to note that our people continue to suffer from the VRA Akosombo Dam spillage-induced disaster while the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia led government overtly looked on, unperturbed. Regrettably, their chief servant in the District, Hon. Agbi, has decided to follow suit the destructive path of his masters. This is alarming!

The NDC in the South Tongu Constituency, led by Chairman Michael Tsikudo, reiterates that the good people of this District are Ghanaians and deserved a duty of care and show of dignity and respect from the government and its functionaries.

Does it not beat every iota of imagination that relief items, freely donated by benevolent persons who understand that a human in need and in pain is a fellow hence needed to be helped, will go waste because of flimsy excuses such as unavailability of fuel? We can no longer take this.

The people of South Tongu and Ghanaians, in general, are already suffering hence does not deserve this inhumane treatment from our government functionaries. Have they sat down to think about the monumental losses occasioned by this man-made disaster? No, perhaps, we are not angry enough!

Certainly, the DCE and Akufo-Addo/Bawumia are not ready to even share freely donated relief items to our people. We wish to inform them that we are able, willing and ever ready to distribute those items to the good people of South Tongu who are suffering from this man-made disaster brought on us by VRA, a State institution.

We have ably demonstrated same in distributing relief items donated by H.E. John Mahama and the NDC National leadership to all the hundreds of households affected by the disaster, irrespective of party affiliation.

We wish to, as a matter of urgency, call on the DCE and the District Assembly to quickly, without any further delay, distribute the available relief items to the affected people and in fact solicit for more to ameliorate the suffering of the good people of South Tongu. This is to remind him of the solemn oath he swore before assuming office to lead the District.
